Reports reaching SLYTECH indicates that the popular YouTuber and Cyber Security Professional, David Bombal, has apparently had his YouTube account hacked and most of his contents messed with. The YouTuber made a community post a few hours after the attack and stated that he had his YouTube account hacked but plans were on the way to restore the channel back to what it used to be before the attack.
It is believed that the mode of attack used by the hackers was the use of a phishing link which was sent to one of his channel editor and the editor clicked the link and was led to a fake YouTube login page in which the login details of David Bombal was entered into and the account got compromised (SEE: How Hackers Create Fake Login Page). The hackers upon gaining access to the channel, proceeded to changed all the videos to Private as well as his graphics to a very typical Elon Musk crypto scam and then began a live stream which lasted for 15 mins and had over 10,000 views as at the time of streaming.
David Bombal’s team responded quickly and took steps to remove the videos as well as remove and reset all of the stream keys and began the recovery process. The YouTuber went on to state that there has been no indication that any of his passwords were compromised and he has systematically changed passwords on all of his social media channels and investigation continues into the root cause and would be updating should there be any news about any potential information disclosure.
This shows us that no one is safe and the best we can do is to ensure the best cyber security policies are implemented and even if you as a person is very careful, you still have to also ensure that your team members and co-workers are also cyber security aware.
